The Miao laboratory at Duke University is seeking a highly motivated and well experienced researcher to join our team to investigate the mechanisms of innate immunity and regulated cell death against bacterial infection. The successful candidate will conduct research to investigate the host-pathogen interaction during bacterial infection. The position involves working in BSL-2 conditions for conducting immunology research using molecular biology, bacteriology, and tissue culture. We require a PhD degree with at least 10 years' experience or for this position. Preference will be given to candidates with skills and experience directly relevant to our research, such as mouse models and flow cytometry.

Responsibilities:

Conduct research to investigate the molecular mechanisms of innate immunity against bacterial infections.

Primarily collaborate with a postdoc in the lab to conduct experiments. In addition, assist with the training of graduate students and other researchers in the lab.

Design and execute experiments, analyze data, and interpret results.

Oversee projects and communicate findings to the principal investigator and postdoc.

Prepare manuscripts that describe the experimental findings and conclusions for publication in peer-reviewed journals.

Stay up to date with new developments in the field by reviewing scientific literature, including journals and abstracts. Use this information to help design and develop new procedures and techniques.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Requirements:

Ph.D. in Immunology, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, or a related field.

Strong background with molecular biology techniques, including RNA/DNA isolation, qPCR, Western blotting, and cloning.

Strong background with confocal microscopy.

Strong background with flow cytometry.

Strong background with gene targeting technology, CRISPR knockout and knock- in.

Experience with MALDI-TOF-MS and LC-MS/MS protein analysis.

Experience with in vitro and in vivo models.

Proficiency in data analysis, including GraphPad Prism, Photoshop, Office, Image J, Image Lab, SnapGene, and FlowJo.

Excellent communication and writing skills.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with animal models of bacterial infection.

Experience with high-throughput sequencing and analysis of RNA-Seq data.

This is a full-time appointment. The successful candidate will have access to state-of-the-art research facilities and will work closely with a highly collaborative and interdisciplinary research team.
