Postdoctoral Research Assistant

£33,314 rising to £36,386 Full Time, Fixed Term - Researcher

The Kriechbaumer lab in the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences is looking to fill the vacancy of postdoctoral research assistant for our BBSRC funded research project. This exciting project will use cutting-edge bioimaging techniques to analyse links between the structure and the function of the plant endoplasmic reticulum. In addition to the requirement that plants become more efficient producers of nutrients, there is in-creasing interest in biotechnological approaches that will see more high-value products such as medicines produced in planta. The endoplasmic reticulum is at the heart of the protein-production machine and it has often anecdotally been suggested that the ER structure relates to a given cell's propensity to secrete protein. But is that really the case?

Main duties:

· Work closely with the Head of the Research Group and others on specific research relating to analysing the structure and function of the plant endoplasmic reticulum.

· Plan own workload within parameters of overall research plan and take responsibility for the design and implementation of research methodologies.

· Day-to-day responsibility for various research projects including financial monitoring of consumables required for the projects.

· Conduct literature searches and reviews and undertake statistical analysis of data using appropriate quantitative and qualitative techniques.

· Keep accurate records, prepares reports and/or publications as appropriate and make presentations at a variety of meetings both in the University and externally.

· Lead on the writing up and dissemination of research findings, authoring publications of a quality that are REF returnable.

· Attend conferences/workshops and present papers as required

We are looking for a well-qualified enthusiastic cell or molecular biologist who is familiar with the analysis and interpretation of cellular structures. Training will be given as required.

The minimum requirements for this post are:

· PhD in relevant subjects (biological, plant biology, cell biology, genetics sciences, bioimaging etc.)

· Experience of relevant molecular/cell biology/bioimaging

· Experience with statistical analysis

· Excellent team working, and the planning, organisational and communication skills this requires

· Ability to communicate effectively, including summarising experimental data and results concisely
