丹麦奥尔胡斯大学2022年招聘博士后职位(量子材料与量子器件)

Aarhus University

Postdoc Opening in Quantum Materials and Devices

A two-year experimental postdoc position is open in the newly established Laboratory of Quantum Materials and Quantum Measurements and Villum Center for Hybrid Quantum Materials and Devices led by Villum Investigator Prof. Yong P. Chen at Department of Physics and Astronomy, Aarhus University, Denmark.

Expected start date and duration of employment

This is a 2–year position from 01/10/22.

This is a fixed-term position to end on 30/09/24.

Job description

General research interests of the new lab and Center include:

1) Fabrication and studies of 2D, topological and hybrid quantum materials, structures and devices with novel electronic and/or optical properties;

2) Advanced quantum transport, optical, and/or scanning probe measurements (esp. at low temperatures and/or high magnetic fields) of materials and devices with potential relevance in quantum information (e.g. computing or sensing) applications;

3) Quantum sensing of quantum materials using qubit probes (e.g. Josephson junctions, NV centers).

Your profile

Applicants should hold a PhD in experimental condensed matter physics, nanoscience or quantum science.

We are particularly interested in candidates with strong experimental research background in one of the following areas:

1) Nano/quantum device fabrication and transport measurements, experience with solid state qubits would be particularly interesting;

2) Scanning probe microscopy;

3) Quantum optics and quantum sensing measurements

Who we are

The Department of Physics and Astronomy is a department on Natural Sciences. The main objectives of the Department are to carry out research at the highest international level, to offer research based teaching at Bachelor of Science, Master of Science and PhD levels, and to exchange knowledge with other areas of society, e.g. by offering our expertise to the business world.

The Department is an attractive workplace for researchers, teachers, technicians, laboratory technicians and administrators and has a good study environment with many talented and active students at all levels. The research at the Department of Physics and Astronomy is of high quality, attracts significant international attention – in several fields the Department is within the world elite – and is characterized by many international collaborations with other high-ranking universities and research institutions around the world.

The newly established Laboratory of Quantum Materials and Quantum Measurements and Villum Center for Hybrid Quantum Materials and Devices led by Villum Investigator Prof. Yong P. Chen (https://pure.au.dk/portal/da/persons/yong-chen(dbfdb176-599c-4897-989f-91f1a240f495).html) is also part of and works closely with Aarhus’ iNANO (https://inano.au.dk/) and Villum Center for Dirac Materials (https://villumcdm.org/), as well as Purdue Quantum Science and Engineering Institute (https://www.purdue.edu/discoverypark/quantum/ in the USA) and WPI-AIMR International Center for Materials Research (https://www.wpi-aimr.tohoku.ac.jp/ in Japan), and enjoys access to extensive facilities and collaboration network worldwide. Successful candidates will be employed/hosted by Department of Physics and Astronomy, Aarhus University, Denmark, but may also spend a portion of time (depending on the project and interests) as visiting researchers in Purdue (USA) or AIMR (Japan).

Please submit: CV with publications, names and contact information of at least 2 references, a brief (~1 page) statement of research interests and plan (in relation to the research directions of our lab and your past research experiences).

What we offer

The successful candidate is offered:

•access to a wide range of state of art research facilities

•a research climate inviting lively, open and critical discussion within and across different subfields of research

•a working environment with teamwork, collegial working relations, network activities among scientists and social activities

•a workplace characterized by professionalism, equality and a healthy work-life balance

•professional mentoring and career development and networking opportunities.

Place of work and area of employment

The place of work is Aarhus University, Ny Munkegade 120, 8000 Aarhus C (some projects may involve overseas work in USA or Japan as noted above), and the area of employment is the Department of Physics and Astronomy.

Deadline

Applications must be received no later than 31/07/2022.

Application procedure

Shortlisting is used. This means that after the deadline for applications – and with the assistance from the assessment committee chairman, and the appointment committee if necessary, – the head of department selects the candidates to be evaluated. All applicants will be notified whether or not their applications have been sent to an expert assessment committee for evaluation. The selected applicants will be informed about the composition of the committee, and each applicant is given the opportunity to comment on the part of the assessment that concerns him/her self. Once the recruitment process is completed a final letter of rejection is sent to the deselected applicants.
