The Department of Physics and Astronony, Aarhus University, Denmark, invites applications for a two years postdoc position at the Molecular Physics Group.

The position is for 2 year and is available from 1st July 2020 or as soon as possible hereafter.

Job description/research project/research area

You are expected to be able to run and develop laboratory facilities with ion-storage rings and pulsed ns and fs. The project involves developing an ultracold ion trap, implement it, and use it at the SAPHIRA ion-storage ring in the group of Prof. Lars H. Andersen.

Your profile

Applicants should hold a PhD in physics or chemistry, or similar fields.

Having a strong focus on ion-beam handling and software development for controlling the experiment as well as for data analysis.

Having experience with all aspects in the research process, including both ion-beams and the handling of fs-laser pulses.

Expertise:

Extensive substantiated experience with the use of accelerators, ion traps, and ion-storage rings

Substantial expertise with pulsed-laser technology

Expertise in LabVIEW and MATLAB programming

Fluent written and oral communication in English is required

The candidate is expected to be able to work both independently and as a team member in the research group.

Who we are/ The department

We are hosted by the Department of Physics and Astronomy at Aarhus University, Denmark. The group is involved in optical studies of molecular ions in the gas-phase. Focus is on absorption properties, fragmentation channels and excited-state lifetimes. Target ions are typically found from photo-active proteins like opsins, fluorescent proteins, and in light-harvesting systems.

Application procedure

Shortlisting is used. This means that after the deadline for applications – and with the assistance from the assessment committee chairman, and the appointment committee if necessary, – the head of department selects the candidates to be evaluated. All applicants will be notified whether or not their applications have been sent to an expert assessment committee for evaluation. The selected applicants will be informed about the composition of the committee, and each applicant is given the opportunity to comment on the part of the assessment that concerns him/her self. Once the recruitment process is completed a final letter of rejection is sent to the deselected applicants, including the main considerations emphasized during the selection process.

Formalities and salary range

Natural Sciences refers to the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Danish Universities under the Danish Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.

The application must be in English and include a curriculum vitae, degree certificate, a complete list of publications, a statement of future research plans and information about research activities, teaching portfolio and verified information on previous teaching experience (if any). Appointment shall be in accordance with the collective labour agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. Salary depends on seniority as agreed between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Confederation of Professional Associations.
