About This Position

The Diabetes Research Institute at the University of Miami, Miller School of Medicine, has an exciting opportunity for a Postdoctoral Associate. This is a postdoctoral position focused on the development of novel biomaterials for use in cell transplant and drug delivery applications. The particular project will encompass the encapsulation of islets of Langerhans or 3D stem cell derived insulin producing aggregates as a therapy to treat Diabetes Mellitus.

The duties and responsibilities for this position may include, but are not limited to:

· Synthesize, purify, conjugate and characterize of novel biomaterials for encapsulation and cytoprotection

· Experiment planning (in collaboration with the supervisor and other personnel involved)

· Meticulous documentation and summarization of the results (including digital/photographic documentation and computerized data entering)

· Periodic written reports

· Attendance of research meetings/seminars and journal club presentations is expected

· Participation in professional training workshops/sessions may be required

· Guidance and mentoring of graduate students might be required

Minimum Qualifications

Ph.D. or other doctoral degree, preferably in Chemistry; or M.D. Prefer knowledge in one or more of the following: polymers, cell encapsulation, nanoemulsions, bioactive polymers, cell transplant, biomedical engineering, and/or analytical chemistry. The ideal candidate should have a background in materials chemistry and characterization as well as training in cell culture and assessment of viability and function. Skill in collecting, organizing, and analyzing data. Ability to recognize, analyze, and solve a variety of problems. Ability to exercise sound judgment in making critical decisions.
