瑞典斯德哥尔摩皇家技术学院2020年招收博士后职位

KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm has grown to become one of Europe’s leading technical and engineering universities, as well as a key centre of intellectual talent and innovation. We are Sweden’s largest technical research and learning institution and home to students, researchers and faculty from around the world. Our research and education covers a wide area including natural sciences and all branches of engineering, as well as architecture, industrial management, urban planning, history and philosophy.

The workplace

The department of Fibre and Polymer Technology is looking for a postdoctoral researcher for research on chemical modification of cellulose and cellulosic fibres. The work will mainly be performed in the Division of Fibre Technology, headed by Prof. Lars Wågberg. More information about the workplace and ongoing research can be found on our webpage (www.kth.se/fpt).

Project Description

Cellulose is a fantastic material already in the form that Mother Nature made it. However, as for any material, there are properties that need to be improved or modulated to increase its applicability and competitive edge over competing materials. Over the last several years, we have developed chemical modification platform to not only improve properties of cellulose, but also introduce new ones, such as high wet strength and thermoplasticity, facilitating novel applications and dramatically improved formability (se for example Green Chem., 2016, 18, 3324– and Mater. Chem. A, 2018, 6, 19371–). We now seek a postdoctoral fellow to inveterate the chemistry in closer detail, as well as study/develop yet other modification strategies based on similar chemistry.

The postdoc, who will be financed through a scholarship from a private foundation, will therefore study and develop chemical modifications of cellulose and establish chemistry¬–structure¬–property relationships and study molecular interactions not only within the material, but also how the material interacts molecularly with other materials. The starting material, the process and the final material will be carefully characterised with state-of-the-art techniques, such as QCM, AFM (molecular interaction and imaging), SEM, as well as material testing for mechanical properties.

Qualifications

The applicant must have completed a doctoral degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, or other related chemistry degree, polymer physics, physics, materials science, or related fields. The degree must have been obtained within three years from the application deadline.

We are specifically looking for you who:

• Have well-documented academic merits,

• Have a PhD degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, polymer chemistry, polymer engineering, physics, materials science, or similar. Regardless of PhD degree, good chemistry knowledge is a must. Good surface chemistry, analytical chemistry organic or cellulose/carbohydrate chemistry skills are furthermore advantageous,

• Have experience of chemically modifying cellulose or other carbohydrates, including qualitative and quantitative characterisation of the modification performed,

• Have knowledge evaluating data as well as hands-on experience of using one or several of the following techniques: AFM, FTIR, NMR, QCM, SEM, TEM, XRD,

• Have full written and spoken proficiency in English.

As a person you are self-motivated and persistent. You have the ability to work hard and spend time, energy and commitment to your work. You remain focused on your goal and work. You take great responsibility in your work and we find it important that you follow the quality standards required for your work and ensures nothing is left to chance. Since you will be part of a large research group (about 20 people) at a large department (about 150 people), it is important that you are good at communicating and building relationships.

Great emphasis will be placed on personal competence and suitability.

Application

Apply to this scholarship by e-mail to kajsau@kth.se. You are the main responsible to ensure that your application is complete according to the ad. Your complete application must be received at KTH no later than 2020-05-31. Mark your application with reference number C-2020-0473.

The application must include the following documents:

• Curriculum vitae, with at least two references (maximum two pages),

• Statement of professional interest (maximum one page),

• Transcripts (BSc, MSc, PhD) from university/universities, showing that you are eligible for the postdoctoral scholarship,

• Example of technical writing, e.g., thesis or scientific paper.

Please, observe that you apply for a scholarship, not an employment.
